It is of course 'human nature', just as is wishing to protect your borders from irregular immigrants that do not share with us any common history, culture, religion (in the main) and social attitudes in general. You have told us how philanthropic you are. Have you not considered expressing this in practical terms by offering to supervise and house immigrants in 'the comfort of (your) centrally heated house with soft furnishings' whilst they seek formal asylum and can move into a new purpose built home ?
