| "why do ordinary men have to go to France and do the Governments job for them." The total French western coastline is 1,000 km (plus 67 km for Belgium). France cannot control it, assuming that they wish to. If Britain put in sufficiently large numbers of official personnel onto the French coast, well, I do wonder what the French would do. A partial solution would be improved control of the Mediterranean. It has been improved in the Greece and Balkans area, but it seems to have shifted more to the Central Mediterranean (Libya) area. For EU citizens, Europe remains largely border-free. For non-EU visitors, digital systems are adding new pre-travel checks and border entry registration, while some countries are temporarily bringing back physical internal checks for heightened security. Better late than never. |
