Andy. I don't think what your friend says necessarily contradicts the process the Border Force person described. I was told at a presentation by the a representative from RNLI in Putney that they were activated by a request from the coast guard. It just sounds like they get far too many activations ... but describing is as an Uber service just seems to be deliberately trying to stir things up - personally I doubt that will fix the problem, I'm not sure it's good for the RNLI's PR. Yes, the gangs needs to be smashed and put in prison, and it's disappointing action has been so slow so far in stopping them. A major issue is the large number of undocumented people here already which the previous government let build up; I understand processing and deportations of failed applications is speeding up, but I'll be honest, I've not seen any recent statistics. New arrivals are a problem but I guess most of the accommodation is being taken up by the numbers accumulated during nearly a decade? I guess something needs to be considered to reduce the costs of accommodation while they're processes? Trouble is these aren't new problems, they've been building up over a decade or more :-( |
