Steven, analogies are never 100% accurate. Perhaps a comparison with Zipcar would be more accurate (or even Waymo taxis that create havoc during power cuts?) - pay your money for the vehicle then head off on your own? Yes, it is blackmail, but by the racketeers making the money, they know there's an international obligation to save lives at sea which drags the coastguard into action then, if needed, the RNLI into rescuing those in trouble. Isn't it human nature to look for a better life and migrate to where one's told their are opportunities? I doubt whether those migrating do a rigorous risk or cost v benefit analysis? Or else their lives are so shit it's worth risking death? I guess it's easy to criticise from the comfort of a centrally heated house with soft furnishings and watching news on the TV? Irrespective of the immigration issue its imperative to shut down the criminal gangs - once they've made their money they'll invest it in another criminal activity; perhaps expect another wave of cyber crime? Less chance of getting caught and western companies and organisations make it too easy to be successful ... |
