I don't think the BBC should be paying out.public money voluntarily. If BBC board members (including recently resigning ones) want to pay to a charity - or perhaps the production company making the original error want to - that's fine by me. 

I haven't verified it but there's suggestion the board delayed the apology letter to the Commons committee ... let's hope if that's true the reasons are made public.
