https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-295m-for-councils-to-introduce-weekly-food-waste-collections It took a long time for this to happen after a Govt consultation. There was a Bill in the last Govt to try to make the main things collected across the counties and Councils the same and simplify it - so when you moved or went on holiday the same basics collected would be the same. It makes it easier to further sell on process the recycling as well. Some boroughs in London started separste food waste collections in 2005 - so Wandsworth are about 20 years behind! The info given in the Govt info above gives a lot of info. There is a huge amount of food wasted in this country. The majority of London boroughs now collect food waste and this was to include the others. With different collection contracts already in place (some used to be 20 years) it will take a while for the changeover. |
