@Lyn I disagree. I moved here (East Putney) in 1973 so I know it was not "ever thus". Our road had a brilliant crew for years and this wasn't ever an issue. However it was a much simpler routine before WBC amalgamated with Richmond Council; one lorry and a couple of guys picking up the rubbish (black) bags, plus the recycling, and chucking them into (I presume) separate sections of just one lorry. Our rubbish collections were very regular, crews were respectful of property and polite and helpful. On the very rare occasion a bag of rubbish was left behind by mistake and I reported it either by phone or online, it was collected within 48 hours. Perfect service! (If it ain't broke why try to fix it?!) However this year the Council in its wisdom🙄introduced waste food bins in July which necessitated a new collection regime; rubbish (black bags) collected at approximately 6.30 am, recycling bags about 10ish and the waste food with yet another collection around 11ish. So, 3 separate collections by presumably 3 different lorries and possibly 3 different crews? No wonder things are going pips-up! From reading comments on various forums it is clear that many residents really dislike the food waste bins. Some have even reported that bags of rotting food were not being collected despite them having been taken out of the bin and left out as instructed on the Council blurb that came with the hideous bin. So this new WBC waste management rubbish collection regime: PROS ~ None. In my opinion. CONS 1) takes far longer 2) has more collections, staggered 3) resulting in more lorries emitting more CO₂ 4) potentially evironmentally damaging (unless they are electric). |
