Jim, if you look at the map of Putney Common at https://www.wpcc.org.uk/downloads/information/wimbledon-and-putney-common-map.pdf you will see that the area owned by WPCC extends all along Beverley path to where it joins the embankment. Barn Elms playing fields are leased to Wandsworth by Richmond Council I think. It may well be the case that the work on the Common land is necessary. But I resent the fact the WPCC are so poor at providing information about what is happening to our Common. No information at all is displayed on their website. I missed the “official notice” which is displayed down by the embankment where the path reaches the river. Did any residents hear from the Conservators before the work began? Perhaps it was mentioned at the pre-Christmas Open Meeting which also was unminuted and does not feature on their website? There was a leaflet through my door from Tideway Tunnel about the work beginning, but I don’t think there was specific reference to using some of the Common ... Nick |
