| All Wandsworth's services have been outsourced [from what I can tell] The Housing people are paid by Wandsworth but they do not work for Wandsworth but to the company who has taken charge of the service. Back to the Library I'm in full support of the more humane and responsible views of Roland, Jane & Lucille who so eloquently point out the folly of 'outsourcing.' Nothing is sacred where Wandsworth are concerned. They don't care about the rights or security of any employee. Every one & every service is there to be Midas material for some private company. Tears will be shed job security lost & services handed to companies that will have no one to answer too. We the public are mere automatons to be treated with contempt. Yet we have just voted yet another Conservative Councillor into office. So who's responsible for letting this sacrilege take place? Wandsworth Council or ourselves? I shall talk with a friend who happens to be a Wandsworth Librarian to see what news they have. Although I think this thread is covering the situation along with different views quite admirably. Quote from Andy Howards post This increased efficiency need not be achieved by reducing service levels or wages (though each of these needs to be kept under critical review in any publicly funded service). More efficient procurement, for example, is one of the ways in which the private sector usually tops the public sector - look at the recently revealed scandal of government spending on IT . End quote Wasn't that money spent/wasted on only looking at privatisation? One sacred [in my view] service after another is getting the midas treatment in handing out vital community services to profit based organisations. Wandsworth is laughing. Would these library proposals bring any conflict of interest with regard to any of the Councillors responsible for this proposed policy action? Kind regards; please lets keep fighting for our heritage I personally hold Librarians in very high esteem as society does; even if Wandsworth disagrees simply because they are their [indirect] employer. Thus anything goes with regard to outsourcing! Sincerely Mr Guy Sunda |
