There was an earlier thread but I couldn't find it immediately by searching the Forum database. As I remember it, WBC are looking at several alternatives. One of them and the best on offer IMHO (short of keeping the staus quo) is that the existing staff form a not-for-profit or social enterprise and bid against the companies (American as I recall) who want to take over library services. I hope the satff's union is taking this threat seriously and assisting wherever possible since not only would jobs and opening hours be at risk but any commercial company has to make a profit and it looks as though that profit would leave the UK if the American company were awarded the contract.
