| Many thanks for all the responses and Jonathan you are quite right - none of this should get in the way of trying to prevent crime -that is the overiding purpose of those reports. Only a few days ago there was an incident involving the armed response team just a few doors away from where I live. I, and I am sure everyone else, wants to know about these things. I have read some of the suggestions. I already suspected a lot of it, but there is absolutely nothing in those reports which could identify anyone (not even the suspects) so I believe the whole thing is a complete waste of time. What really maddens me is that no one appears to think we are intelligent enough to understand the issues, so we get these vague patronising bulletins saying that "we are still waiting for a ruling from the Information Commissioner", and no one is prepared to say exactly what part of the law needs to be "clarified". The result is that we are all left guessing what on earth the issue could possibly be. Have we really got into such a state that everyone is so frightened of being sued that all attempts to engage with the public are strangled? |
