| I've also some limited dealings with the ICO but in the financial world it's more clear cut - encrypt or else! (Sorry slightly flippant generalisation.) But it was pointed out to me recently by a legal DP expert that the law requires the "taking of reasonable steps" to protect personal information so I'd have thought if in releasing information the police try to take care to protect the victim (or even get the victim's permission) they may well be covered. I occasionally end up speaking with ex police - or even some serving police - people after some presentations so I may see if I can get an unofficial view on this sometime. |
