James, in answer to your question, the new Freedom Passes will continue to be valid on local bus services throughout England.  The English Rose symbol, which confirms this validity, will appear on the new passes. The big difference with the new passes is that you'll have to supply a photo, as your photo will now be on the pass itself instead of on a separate photocard. You have to apply in person at a Post Office as previously, but the new pass will be posted to you rather than being instantly available.  "Only by chance did I discover ..." That's because the advertising campaign starts on Monday.  I think they decided to wait until everything was in place to start the renewals before launching the campaign.
