| I am writing as the new Transport Panel Convenor for the Putney Society. The Society is very pleased that the river taxi service is expanding and would like to thank Cllr Torrington for publicising it on the Forum. We certainly support efforts to draw the attention of as many people as possible to its existence and we view these services as a positive addition to the travel options available to Putney residents. We understand the operator does have plans to add new services and intends to introduce a new 55-seat high-speed catamaran in 4-5 weeks’ time on new services which will leave Putney Pier at 08.00 and 09.00. We have specifically asked them to consider running a midday service from Putney but anything more is likely to be dependent on take-up levels of current services, so if we want these to remain and grow, then we will have to make sure they are properly used. As we understand it the operator receives no subsidy at all from TfL although part of the discounts they offer to Travelcard and Oystercard holders are recoverable from TfL. We would encourage WBC to explore ways in which TfL might be able to offer fuller support for the operator’s enterprising efforts and further expand the service, to include further daytime departures and perhaps offer weekend services, etc. |
