Of course, Mr Hawkes, you know I was being succinct saying Greenland was part of Denmark. Yes, it was previously a Danish colony but is now a self governing area with responsibility for internal affairs, whole Denmark has responsibility for international matters. (I suppose a bit like the Falkland Islands and the UK, or the French overseas territories that aren't external departments? I guess it all is a hangover from Europe's imperial past. Let's face it a lot of the modern USA is former colonies of Europe.) Greenland's aim is long term is full independence.

I wasn't aware of this recent treaty between the US and Denmark but it seems to give the US all the access to Greenland they might to defend a threat against themselves as well as Greenland. Let's face it, Trumps objective is the defence of US interests,  not Greenland.

(Perhaps Trump is upset because Obama did the deal?)

I think Greenlanders might not want US rule for many reasons. Who'd want to swap EU style benefits for those in the US - I believe free or low cost health care, parental leave, statutory paid holidays, etc - even though they were the first country to leave the EU before the UK; they might not be keen, as an indigenous people, being policed by federal ICE quasi military agents who are apparently picking up First Nation US citizens for interrogation because they are dark/tan skinned and might be illegal immigrants.

(Release was on Facebook but Ithink that can be read withouta FB Account. )

Now that Argentina has a government supported by President Tump would you think this is an appropriate time for the Falkland Islands to become the Malvinas? I  doubt whether the penguin give a toss about Greenland, but they might care about the Falkland Islands  - while the polar bears might fight! Of course, I suppose if the penguins migrate from Antarctica to the Arctic perhaps the US ICE agency might be required to detain and deport those undocumented flightless birds for their own safety before tha polar bears attack ... but don't most, or all, in the Uk want self determination for the Falkland Islanders, so being consistent anyone who doesn't support Greenland's right to chose must deny that's the right of Falkland Islanders?

I struggle, as an atheist who was indoctrinated in Christianity in my early days, as I don’t understand those in the current Washington administration who proclaim to be Christians. They seem to get pleasure in bullying, threatening, exploiting and demeaning the under privileged; I thought Christians we supposed to help, give to, and support them? It all seems hypocritical to me; Vance's priest must have fun at JD's confessions, handing out the penances; let's hope the Pope doesn't excommunicate him!

Anyway, I got to see the best side of the USA today. Nearly four hours of excellent music and entertainment at a cinema live relay from the Met Opera of Bellini's 'I Puritani' sponsored by ...  . A great way to promote American culture and show how great America is and has always been.

This was sent in rush as Ivonne and Jonathan seem to have got in first while I've been enjoying opera with a nice glass of red wine. So E&OE
