Mr Hawkes, You will probably appreciate that I find your frequent portrayal of the Israelis as being completely blameless in the horrific events in Gaza after the Hamas attack is unjustified. Your “Israel Does Not Feature” posting on slavery was a case in point. There is slavery in Israel, which I demonstrated. I was also trying to get you to understand that their reaction to the horrific Hamas attack on Israel has not been in any way proportionate. I do not condone or seek to justify those October 7th attacks by the way. As to the question of slavery I support the definition used by Anti-Slavery International (ASI) and confirmed by the International Labour Office among many other organisations. I was not saying arranged marriage was slavery, I was referring to forced marriage. Again your attempt to seek to portray Israel as not guilty of any wrong doing (such as slavery) is wishful thinking. I hope this quotation from ASI is helpful: “There are hundreds of definitions of modern slavery. All of these include aspects of control, involuntary actions and exploitation. At Anti-Slavery International, we define modern slavery as when an individual is exploited by others, for personal or commercial gain. Whether tricked, coerced, or forced, they lose their freedom. This includes but is not limited to human trafficking, forced labour and debt bondage.” Nick |
