'John, in fact Israel is involved in slavery. According to the Global Slavery Index 2023, an estimated 3.8 in every thousand people were in modern slavery in Israel at any point in 2021. In other words, 5,000 people experienced forced labour or forced marriage in Israel in 2021. Israel ranks 114th globally and 32nd within Europe and Central Asia'. This is an intriguing fact, though are forced labour and forced marriage the same thing ? I have no doubt that many 'arranged' marriages within certain ethnic communities in the UK involved a degree of 'strong encouragement' made by the families towards the couples, especially the women, involved. Where is the UK in the list ? But regarding Israel, who owns the slaves, where do they come from and how is the system maintained ? And are you saying that the Israeli government turns a blind eye to such slavery ? Probably not as they are so low in the world rankings. As regards “terrible mistreatment of its Palestinian and Arab neighbours” by Israel, I have made my opinions known. Why oh why did the Gazan Palestinians invade Israel last October, starting a war that has bought such retribution and misery upon themselves ? |
