If you look at the last census, we have more people working in Estate Agency in Wandsworth than manufacturing. It is the agents that set "market prices". In theory, there is nothing to stop us selling our home to our children for just under the IHT requirement, but that would not be a "market price". It is agents who dictate what is "desirable" "stunning" or in need of refurbishment. That is the "system" we are stuck with. Our economy is based almost entirely on consumer spending, sugary fatty food, and cheap goods made in the Far East, or Eastern Europe. Our young people study in over-crowded dilapidated schools, jumping through ever-increasing hoops. Mr Gove would to strap them to their desks to ten hours a day. If they get into University , they are then saddled with debt, face unpaid internships or zero-hours contracts, which preclude any sort of "lifestyle" let alone security of tenure. Those who escape to greener suburbs, face an expensive commute, A&E closures, and now the spectre of fracking, which will result in relaxation of trespass laws and methane gas coming out of their taps. No wonder the Gap-year generation does not want to vote, and I doubt many of them will be able to afford Tory MP Mr Zahawi's £4.3m mansion on the Heath. His "Tory values" allowed him to claim a total of £170,234 in expenses during 2012/13, including £5,822 to keep his stables warm. Whilst political greed and dishonesty is nothing new, who kept writing the cheques? The Tory failure to compromise is not limited to opulence it seems, but the Estate agent will get a great paycheque too, after a spot of cheap advertising on this forum |
