A lift is really important, at both the train and tube stations. It's not too bad if you have nothing to carry, but when you have, it is wearying and strenuous. I have a number of elderly friends with knee and hip problems, and they use buses to avoid these stations.
For years for my journey home I took the Victoria Line from Green Park to Vauxhall, then the train to Putney. I used to count the steps out of the tube station, then up to the platform at Vauxhall, and finally the steps at Putney. May have been doing my heart good, but it was hard on my knees. The crowning glory was struggling on to a packed train at Vauxhall, where the gap is wide, and the train high. OK if you're tall, but it you're not it's quite frightening. |
