I feel the proposed changes are a net benefit given that there will be more cycle parking and more room for pedestrians outside the station. It gets very congested there especially when the flower shop has laid out its stock. The taxi rank ideally should be moved away from the middle of the road - there must be near misses every day as people weave their way through the traffic to get there. Or open the taxi door only to have someone zoom past inches away. The cab drivers association are very protective of their members and plans to put a shortened rank either outside Natwest just before the bus stop, or round the corner on Upper Richmond Road outside Estate Agents Row were resisted. I am convinced the cab rank has been in the middle of the road ever since the days of horses and carts. The road is so congested anyway I doubt these changes will make any difference. Putney Hill is single lane and the traffic frequently backs up into the High Street. Maybe the right hand lane should be right turn only? |
