Redevelopment of Putney station would provide the best long term solution. Lifts will cost about £0.6-1M each and I think three are proposed for Putney. I haven't seen the "Access for All" proposals yet but together with booking hall alterations, stair improvements etc. the spend is likely be in the region of £3M+. It would be a shame if the AFA plans do not allow for incorporation of lifts into a redevelopment that may also relocate retail units away from the pavements. Jonathon's suggestion of making the southbound, right hand lane a right turn only is a sound one. It's often the case that traffic heading south in that lane is held by traffic turning right into URR. This holds up the main traffic flow when vehicles try to cut back into the central lane. Since the High Street is single Lane and Putney Hill single lane, it does make sense. Installing bicycle stands on busy pavements is not a good idea. I've seen people's clothes spoilt by dirt and black tyre grime brushing off onto them. Why is it that the objections of black cab drivers should supersede and take precedence over a better improvement plan for Putney that would sensibly relocate their rank? Does anyone know if there is legal precedent conferring rights upon them or if this is simply obstructive influence? Why is that WBC will not accept submissions from residents generally? Any proposals affect far more residents than the relatively tiny number currently allowed to submit comments. Is The Putney Society excluded too? Regarding the post describing hauling shopping up to the station, don't Sainsbury have a minicab Freephone in store; most supermarkets do? |
