I attended a packed PAC last night as I am concerned with the bulk/density issues these high rises raise. To my dismay this site got planning permission last night for 104 flats along with shops and a much reduced office space. A planner stated that 13 storeys was acceptable because of 11 storeys at the Swish building. Surely buildings are assessed individually? This building was also called a "landmark" to justify the 13 storeys as if no-one in Putney knows where the tube is! No other criteria was put forward to justify 13 storeys apart from the obvious (density/profit). Councillors raised questions about the impact of this development on transport, sustainability, servicing the development from Carlton Drive, loss of commercial office space and affordable housing. WBC have specific requirements for these however this development fell short on each criteria. A couple of Councillors I felt had real concerns about these issues but the application was approved anyway. Can anybody tell me why domestic planning applications are rejected for not complying with every detail of policy requirement but on these commercial applications they are totally disregarded for the benefit of who? I left not sure who WBC are listening to but it wasn’t the people living in Putney. |
