Councillor Maddan I am not a Commons Conservator but a West Putney resident who elects them and also pays the Common levy. I am in favour of their decision to refuse a path. Putney Common is quite small, currently dog walkers and pedestrians use the downward paths (beside Putney Hosp) and cyclists ride across the common going from LRR to Barnes. Thus mums with prams and tots avoid cyclists and vice versa. Currently I feel this works well. The only bit of the path that needs sorting out is outside All Saints Church which ends up muddy. Lets face if your going onto a common most people will wear suitable footwear e.g. wellies. Richmond Park is used as an example and anyone who has tried a leisurely stroll on one of the paths will know the nightmare of cyclists speeding by on the same path. I would be very interested to know what the Wimbledon & Putney Rangers think - they have to police it already in Wimbledon. Do they think it is a good idea? However thank you for highlighting this. |
