There is no legal right to receive a receipt in the UK. However as you paid with a card of some sort, nearly every clearing bank requires retailers to comply with standards (PCI-DSS etc) which mandate that a payment receipt must be issued covering payment type / value details, VAT number etc (this receipt would not itemise items that have been purchased) simply a record of payment. Failure to comply with these standards can result in the retailer losing the ability to accept card payments. |
