Re cars turning right out of Dryburgh, that's appalling! Yes, I agree they should do something about this - perhaps a line of orange cones extending on the same side of the road as the red fences. However, if it's closed off fully, it screws up the cycle diversion, which ends at the Dryburgh Road pedestrian crossing for cyclists travelling westbound. (The signage does not make it clear but I could only assume that that is how they are meant to travel after following the blue signs from Clarendon Drive.) Hence my suggestion of cones, as cyclists will be able to ride on the carriageway west of the crossing but cars will be encouraged not to make a dangerous right turn into the one way and ignoring the red light. May I recommend the use of mobile phone cameras to get the number plates of any cars spotted doing this? Re the works in general, at least we don't have the French way of doing things. They just close the entire road, and do all the work in one go. This happened to us in the Pyrenees a couple of years ago, and if our driver hadn't known a back way past it on a woodland trail, we'd have faced a 200km diversion down to the next valley and back as the road was closed for the next few hours! |
