I support a 20mph limit on almost all roads that are currently 30mph. Unfortunately the mayor is doing everything he can to make things better for cars, at the expense of pedestrians, like reducing the time pedestrians have to cross roads. The root of the problem is we have too many car-journeys, and too much space for cars in London. Cyclists on pavements wouldn't be a problem if the pavements were a decent width, or if there was a decent-width bike lane (at least as continuous and convenient as the road). Instead, valuable space is used for two rows of on-street parking, or an extra traffic lane. Even Boris's "Cycle Superhighways" seem to be a waste of time -- the bike lanes are narrower than the Department for Transport's minimum width, they're not continuous, cars are allowed to drive and park in them, and they're on busy main roads -- the least safe place to cycle! |
