A friend of mine from my university days, who also lives in Putney, and I were discussing Hammersmith Bridge and we felt we could learn from the modern day Greeks. The old road crossing over the Corinth canal was old and scenic but very restrictive for motor traffic. So they built a high level bridge with a six lane motorway that goes over the canal and old bridge without damaging any historic features but allows motorists from Athens to reach the Pelopennese a lot faster. Perhaps a high level bridge and motorway from Hammersmith Broadway to the A3 three lane section is the solution. I suppose to be honest, that was something we came up with aftera couple of drink, and I think the Greeks got an EU grant to assist them ... pity about Brexit ... Ive driven over both: told one is very scenic but the new ones probably three times faster! |
