I'm sorry to have to say this, but a number of the things you've written there are simply wrong. Specifically: (1) Concerning the Lower Richmond Road (and I live on one of the streets just off it) there are often tailbacks especially at peak periods and the weekends, but these are not caused by diversions from Hammersmith Bridge but by the controversial reconfiguring of the junction at Putney Bridge. (2) As the TfL figures show, there are not thousands of vehicles which formerly went over Hammersmith Bridge which are now going over Putney Bridge, so those (non-existent) vehicles are not therefore destroying the quality of life in Putney. (3) There is no evidence that those same non-existent vehicles are increasing pollution in Putney, in fact the level of pollution is decreasing - and the pressure exerted by the sterling work of Putney Society over the last 14 years has surely helped in this. Of course the pollution is still too high, but there are other causes than the closure of Hammersmith Bridge. |
