The lesson I would learn from this as a cyclist is not "avoid cycling in the city" but if someone claims against you, then put in a counter claim. Whilst I'm driving locally, I see so many people crossing a road I may be turning into whilst staring at their phones and not seeing me.  Of course I wait, but then any traffic behind has to cope with me indicating left and then suddenly stopping when the person steps out into the road.  (Don't nag for driving locally, getting on a bit now). I must say, chugging around slowly on my bike, the only people who have ever shouted at me have been the speedy cyclists!!
