Yes, clearly an exemption for blue badge holders would be right, thank you Barbara (if I may so refer to you...) for the suggestion. On the general issue of through traffic, when some 10 or 15 years ago the Friends of Richmond Park (disclosure of interest: I was chairman at the time) supported a ban on through traffic proposed by the (then) Royal Parks Agency, there was an almighty row with outraged nearby residents incandescent at the thought that they might lose their "right" to drive through the Park whenever they wanted. The result was that the RPA was frightened into cravenly scuttling away with its tail between its legs. Perhaps now, though, with increased awareness of environmental issues, the Royal Parks might be persuaded to take courage and propose something rather more effective. It really is insupportable to allow through traffic, and much though people like to do it (sorry, Emarisa!), they must realise that whilst they are enjoying the view (though clearly not too much if they concentrate as they must one where they are driving),they are helping to despoil what they claim to love. The Park should be a haven and its status as a SSSI, a NNR and a SAC maintained, not treated as a pleasant driving route for people in cars. |
