Have to say that it does make you so much more cautious when people ask for help. We were asked, in Sheen, outside Waitrose for help. Car was pulled over with bonnet up. Woman on the pavement, leaning against the car, holding hand of a child. Said she'd run out of petrol and could we 'lend' her a tenner to go and get some. She'd come out without her bag and purse. We said we were just leaving so would go and get her some. She said not to bother, she'd rather go herself. Husband said No, if you've run out, stay with the car and your child, and I'll get you a cannister. Woman argued. Then saw a man coming towards us, grabbed the child and ran off. Turned out it was HIS car, it had broken down, and he'd never seen her before. We didn't bother to go after her because the child (about 6) looked upset. So just an opportunist. But it does make me mad!
