According to a report in the Evening Standard (http://tinyurl.com/y949z9c), atmospheric pollution in Putney High Street is the second worst in the capital. According to EU standards, NO2 monitoring stations, which report levels every hour, cannot exceed 200mg per cube metre more than 18 times in a calendar year. But Brixton Road, Lambeth, has exceeded the limit 140 times and Putney High Street, 75 times. Since NO2 comes primarily from car exhaust fumes, here's yet another reason why traffic in the High Street needs to be reduced.
But will the council gather the intestinal fortitude to do something about it? Don't hold your breath (except when you're in Putney High Street, that is...) |
