Last Friday at about 7.00 pm two men tried to break into our house in West Putney.  We were in at the time, but the front of the house was in darkness so they may have assummed it was unoccupied.

On hearing the front window being forced open I went to find out what was happenning, saw two young men running out through the front gate, and set off after them, hoping I'd get sight of a number plate or something else that would help to identify them.  In the event a passer by saw what was going on, chased them and caught one of them who was later put under arrest by the police. It remains to be seen what happens to him, but he is apparently a "persistent and prolific offender".

It seems there have been quite a few opportunist burglaries in the area recently, although the police say they are getting to grips with the problem and the number of incidents has probably peaked.  In any event, I'd advise householders to check domestic security - again - and ensure that your house does not appear deserted or offer too many dark areas externally in which allow burglars the chance to operate.
