| When we moved in, in 1998, we had to apply for planning permission to install a pavement crossover and carry out various works to our front garden. When our neighbour installed a pavement crossover, no planning permission was needed and she had a large double size crossover installed. It is our opinion that the planning department takes peoples word for it on the phone about the work to be carried out and about the amount of existing site to be destroyed. They do not come out and look at a property beforehand. If site plans are not submitted, who knows at the council what alterations are to take place. We think the planning department is too lax and these little bits of streetscape that get destroyed, all add up to damage to the conservation area. Nobody at the council seems to check the work that has been carried out anymore. |
