| I defer to your knowledge of farming, Richard, but I am sure that increased mechanisation has not entirely obviated the need for farming skills, some of which can be passed from parents to their children. The original decision to impose IHT and cut business relief , an act of class war dreamed up by a metropolitan elite who know little or nothing about the countryside, undermined the viability of asset-rich but income-poor family farms, impacting rural economies, culture and food security. Thankfully the government have listened to common sense, extending the threshold at which farms are liable to IHT from £1 million to £2.5 million. As a matter of interest, do you welcome this latest climbdown? |
