| Your post, Michael, was silly in that a contributor to Putney Forum would hardly be likely to own a family farm. It was also impertinent to assume that anyone who welcomes Labour's latest climbdown must have a personal interest in the matter. But above all your comment showed ignorance of the issue. The Chancellor's original plan to impose IHT and cut business relief would have forced asset-rich but income-poor farmers to sell up, destroying livelihoods, laying to waste farming skills acquired over the generations and jeopardising the nation's food supply. |
