| Goodness me. You seem incapable of engaging in debate without being insolent. I now understand that you were only referring to the last part of Sue’s post, though this was not clear. In any case your reference to more than half a million was misleading. IHT is currently payable at 40% on legacies in excess of £325 000. The average price of a property in Putney is between £700 000 and £1 million. So on average children in this constituency would expect to face a tax bill of between £150 000 and £270 000 on the death of their parents. So, no, you don’t have to be ‘doing very well’ to land your children with a huge tax bill. |
