, I had to laugh at Steven’s description of the IHT move as “laying to waste farming skills acquired over the generations” conjuring up, as it did, visions of farmers teaching their sons and daughters how to milk a cow or broadcast seeds by hand for the summer’s crop. You don’t seem to realise that farming has been highly mechanised for at least 75 years, and even my father, one in a line of family farmers for at least four generations and who was certainly not a progressive agriculturist, understood that a combine was far more economic than a binder for harvesting the corn.
