Mr Hawkes. Isn't that what debate is about. I wasn't talking about foreign doctors but there's apparently a number of UK nationals who migrate to Australia for higher salaries. Of course, I'd agree there's a danger with generalising; "doctors" covers a range of occupations: GPs, surgeons, emergency trauma specialists, etc. The number of people on welfare because of poor health seems to be a post covid problem which has been passed from the previous government to this one. I have to admit until I met my ex-boss who had long covid, I didn't fully understand how debilitating it could be: he was someone I remember as being very self motivated and rushing around getting stuff done (or delegating it for me to do!); actually, he's still motivated to do things - like going to the astronomy history conference where I bumped into him - but it knocks him out for days afterwards, fortunately, he's retired on a well earned pension now. There seems to be an issue that home based, "desktop jobs" that many people with this type of issue might be able to manage, perhaps part time, are being taken over by ML/AI. The future world of work is going to be significantly different - best get a good education to learn how to learn and cope with change and new concepts? Or, talking to our window cleaner get a trade that's probably not going to get automated too soon: one of his sons is apprenticed to be an electrician; the other is planning to become a plumber. When you're plunged into darkness or water's gushing down the stairs, if you don't know what to do, such people are invaluable :-)
