Ms Bond 'Mr Hawkes - You seem to think that the bombing of Dresden in WW2 was and is uncontroversial. It was and is still considered to be a war crime by some.' Not by those living in Liverpool, Coventry or my relations living in the East End of London. They thought I am sure "sod 'em; the Germans started all of this; demolished our homes; and have killed our friends and relations and so deserve a taste of their own medicine". But had they access to this Forum and the subtle arguments of those faux pacifists that believe aggressors in wars, especially if they are attacking Britain and its allies, should have their points of view recognised, then of course they might have reacted differently. And would have posted that there are always two sides to every dispute, perhaps saying "Gerry, we take your point: you've a right to do it". And if attitudes of today were as prevalent then they might have also added "at least you are also exterminating those pesky Jews". |
