Ivonne, don't think we'll ever agree on LTNs, but I'm genuinely sorry your experience of one was so bad. I do agree that the solution to the problem is to tackle the cause not the effect, but not that allowing the traffic to flow would solve it, because, as always happens, by increasing the flow you only encourage marginal (in the economic sense) drivers to take advantage (the inverse of traffic evaporation). What it does need is for the powers that be to grasp the real problem, which I said earlier was too many cars, by introducing flexible road pricing. But I can't see anyone in authority having the bravery to counter the hailstorm of complaints for the motoring lobby. Oh, and of course I don't resent anyone of using our road (which is pretty quiet anyway) provided they drive considerately - which means, among other things, driving within the speed limit. |
