Michael that TFL data is almost 14 years out of date! It also ignores the fact that bus journeys are taking longer with less cars are on the road. As for Hammersmith Bridge it looks like replacing Hammersmith Bridge II with a new bridge was never considered even though it would have been a fraction of the cost and time. The HBII could have then been repaired and relocated. But back to the actual point. There is no reason why buses should be parked at bus stops on roads that hold up traffic for other vehicles including other buses and make cycling even more dangerous not to mention increased pollution. The waiting time at a bus stop should be set accordingly and a fine issues to the company providing the service. (I seem to remember - have to check that bus waiting times at stops used to be restricted). A orange checkbox on across the road may help other vehicles to pass but that should not be necessary if buses with triple doors were in use. It's poor management of the bus & road network. Unless political pressure is put on the Mayor he will continue to let road transport deteriorate. |
