True enough - evaporation does happen. But there's far too little of it. It would be interesting to see comparative statistics of bridge crossings upstream and downstream of Hammersmith Bridge. I remember stats that appeared not long after the closure but I wonder how such stats might look now. There were an estimated 25,000 vehicle crossings per day of Hammersmith Bridge back in 2018. Have they all shifted to other bridges? Meanwhile, Felsham Road suggests drivers will still work on rat run alternatives to choked main roads, hence the appearance of LTNs as a way of protecting quiet residential streets from unwanted through traffic. |
