Had missed that the Trade Unions were putting up in more than one Ward.  Yes, if you look at previous elections generally speaking the vote of the three candidates goes down with their alphabetical position, though there are other systematic differences - for example, if there is one female candidate and two males the female will often get a hundred or more votes than would be expected based on their alphabetical position, and of course there is an incumbency effect with some councillors having a noticeable personal vote if they have been committed Ward councillors for a long time - Angela Graham and Elizabeth Howlett jump to mind (as I think does Tony Belton for Labour).  But with some 20% of Wandsworth voters turning over each year the personality is much less important than it is say in more demographically stable rural areas. By my calculation only 13 of our 47 Conservative councillors are standing down this time - that's a rather smaller proportion than normal, especially quite a few of those are retirements after many years of sterling service (Cllrs Mrs Angela Graham, Vanessa Graham and Elizabeth Howlett, who by my calculations have 80 years of service among them!), with at least one other going for health reasons and one to get married and move to Australia.  One of the issues in London compared to many other areas is that we do get quite a few young councillors (as a spring chicken of 56 years as of Thursday I would be one of the youngest members of most rural district councils!) but tend to lose some them as they become more deeply ensconced in their careers or move away to bring their families up outside Inner London.  Very few councils manage to hold on to excellent young councillors like, on our side, Kim Caddy, Alex Jacob, Jonathan Cook, Nick Cuff and John Locker (and the same can be said about a number of the Labour councillors), all of whom are restanding. But it is getting generally more difficult to attract long-term working-age councillors.  It is not just the level of abuse that some individuals like to pile on those who dare to stand for office (that was always the case sadly), but an increasing unwillingness among employers to be flexible over time off for civic duties and also the bizarre position of the current Local Governmment Secretary.  He has recently banned councillors from joining or remaining in the local government pension scheme on the grounds that the role of councillor should not be regarded as a 'job' and that allowances are not meant as a wage - but at the same time taxing those allowances and preventing councillors from claiming mileage to the Town Hall (or much more importantly County Hall) as taxable expenses since the Town/County hall is in this context regarded as their 'place of work'.  The former increases the already significant amount of financial sacrifice that most working-age councillors make to serve the public in the role; the latter doesn't really affect us in an Inner London Borough but imagine if you represent say Penzance or Appleby-in Westmoreland and have to travel to Truro or Carlisle twice a week in fulfilling your duties as a Cornwall or Cumbria County Councillor.
