WHen I went to buy an extra bit for my laptop, the chap in what used to be/still is ? Curry's gave me a leaflet and told me to shop online….I walked down to Maplins and got exactly what I wanted, with very helpful staff. Am I alone in missing Jessops? Fantastic choice of cameras and accessories with really helpful people. Don't know quite where to go locally for a new UV lens, are there any other decent camera shops out there? I agree with Dipesh that there is nothing that acts as an anchor for our High Street like Ely's in Wimbledon, Arding and Hobbs in Clapham and Dickens and Jones in Richmond. I too like walking to the High Street and coming home with things in my basket. We seem to need an active consumer group or Chamber of Commerce to sort things out. I remain completely puzzled as to the need for two Cashinos, and more than one betting shop in Putney. Why are there two Boots within a few hundred yards of each other, with Superdrug over the road from one of them? I gather the owners of the Exchange charge extremely high rents, and this accounts for the small number of independent retailers therein, mainly card and gift shops. |
