I keep having to repeat this. No, our local council does not choose the shops that we have on our High St. This is not 1950's Albania. They can control the physical shape through planning (though in planning, there is an over-riding principle of allowing development unless there is a proven negative) but that's all. So since they have little or no control, how could they have a joined up plan? To open a betting shop you need premises with A2 class use (easily obtained by conversion of A5, A4 or A3) - eg an old bank or estate agent. Then you need a license. The licensing authority is concerned as to whether you are a fit person. NOT what you look like on the High St. As I stated in an earlier thread, I am not pro-gambling. I think gambling is at best stupid and at worst pernicious. But them's the rules. And that's why these betting shops and arcades are there. |
