You have it in one Nick - lack of parking and also the cost of parking in the Exchange means if you need to get more than just a few items and need the car you will go elsewhere e.g. Kingston, Wimbledon etc. They have numerous parking spaces and the cost is significantly cheaper than Putney. This leaves Putney High Street mostly for food and drink. WBC could actively turn down planning applications which didn't support PHS and lobby the Government for a High St Business Rate freeze/reduction. Why not just lobby the Exchange to reduce car parking charges to help the retailers over the Christmas period when people will be buying numerous items? We all want to support our High Streets but the powers that be do not make it easy. |
