Chantal, I think the retailers have decided that it's the youf who have the money to spend, hence Top Shop, River Island and TK Maxx Top Shop is especially awful: it's dreadful, not a pair of proper trousers in sight (Top Shop seems to be designed for people with lots of money but absolutely zero taste). And the M&S (as you say) is far too basic - but one way of working with it is to order something online and get it delivered for pickup in the PHS shop AFAIR you don't even have to pay on ordering but see if you like the goods there, and pay if they're what you want. The same with John Lewis/Waitrose (except that I think you have to pay upfront there). Of course it's not ideal buying clothes like this, but at least you don't have to worry with posting the stuff back, just leave it there. On the other hand, Mrs C has a number of times wanted something that she's seen in an M&S but in the wrong size; they'll track down the right size in another branch and get it sent to the PHS one if you ask. Hope this helps Mr B-M. |
