| As you say, the speed limit is often broken by the inconsiderate. Creating excessive wash is the result of ignorance (and to some extent hull design). It is not only a hazard for rowers but leads to accelerated damage to the banks and older sections of river wall too. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe at present, motorised craft need only to pay the fee to obtain a licence. Safety is paramount so perhaps captains of motorised craft should be required to pass a knowledge and competence test before being issued a PLA licence and allowed to use the Tideway. |
