The proposal is a gross intrusion that would significantly degrade the visual amenity of Putney Embankment and the riverscape. It is not necessary in terms of housing provision since there are hundreds of apartments being built or planned to be built in Putney for those who wish to live here. The existing pier is rarely used by transient vessels and it therefore appears there is no demand for temporary moorings as claimed. The likelihood is that if permission were granted, this development would not be a transition point but purely exploitation of the river for permanent houseboats resulting in personal gain for the applicant and of no discernible benefit to the community at large or to Putney. |
